OK, firstly and most importantly:
Well done Bexy!! You rock and are amazing and all that jazz....
Secondly and almost as importantly, I watched the first ep of Dollhouse last night, which means...
I was kinda dubious about what I was going to think of this series, having heard not so good things about it. So I was trying very hard not to get all over excited about it (Which only partially worked) and just take it as I found it.
Overall I was impressed. It prehaps isn't an impressive piece of Joss TV, but is a very impressive piece of TV in general. I do wonder wheather Echo will be a diffucult character to get to like, I'm hoping that as the series goes on we will get more of her coming through, its a little hard to care about a blank person. The lab guy seems like he has the potential to develop into an interesting typical Joss-type character (I'm thinking a slightly more intelligent Xander type) Not sure about Echo's 'handler', he seems kind of distant too, but having said that the women in charge (seem to be having issues with names atm...) is another one that could develop nicely.
The story itself seemed safe. It moved along well, prehaps didn't entirely make everything as clear as it could have been, but it kept you interested in it. It was less peppered with witty Joss speak as you would normally expect, but then it was the first ep, so it has pleanty of time to develop its own language (The language of Buffy and Angel certainly developed from those first episodes) There was nothing remarkable about it, but it was certainly a good piece of television.
I found Eliza's acting at the begining to be a little too Faith like in my opinion. She had a very simular way of talking and acting as Faith had. But having said that once she became 'Echo' there was alot less of that. i have seen Eliza in other things since Buffy/Angel so I assumee that was just a result of having a character so simular to Faith, written and directed by Joss to Eliza. Amy Acker was a nice surprise as I hadn't realised she was involved in this too (I think I've been too removed from Joss-Verse recently!)
So yes, I liked it. I'll be quite interessed to see how Joss develops it, at the minute it seems very limited, what with Echo being wiped whenever they feel like it, so I'm excited to see how he changes her to keep the story moving along. Heres hoping the project is given the time and freedom to become a full Joss series.
AND I made easter rice crispie nests!!
