OK as far as episodes go? Not that great. I mean, it wasn't awful, but it didn't make a whole lot of sense. But it did serve its purpose, it introduced us to Amy, and it showed us that Eleven is new.
I think the Doctor had some defining moments. The most being not hiding from the fact that he is the last of his kind. He hesitated, but he didn't dodge the question or even pretend, she didn't have to push. She asked, he answered. He's decisive, he didn't wrestle with his decision, he made it. But he does seem to think he's above humans, again. I thought in the last ep he seemed quite dismissive of them, this time he was downright arrogant and rude. Quite a departure from Ten's complete love for them. And maybe I missed the sarcasm, but he doesn't seem as aware of himself, the 'we watch' speech, ummm? Really? With Ten there would have been some comment along the lines of 'but it never really works', but again, maybe I missed the subtlety.
Amy's coming to the conclusion that the beast would still fly without being tortured was a little weak, but it did show us how she see's the Doctor. It's almost like it's not so new to her as with the other companions. She's known the Doctor most of her life, even though he was only around for a few minutes (hours?), she's fantasized about it, about him, for 14 years. So she doesn't need him to tell her the rules, in her head they've been there for ever.
Also, the Doctor lets Amy help fly the TARDIS. I know that they all did in Journey's End, and that the Doctor does let Donna at one point (I forget the ep), but I also remember him saying he couldn't believe he was letting her. Amy he just kind of gestures at a control. The first time she even gets into the TARDIS she pulls one of the controls. They seem a lot more equal right from the off, she hasn't got to earn it, and he already has.
Loving the hint back to EoT with the comment about running away from things. He might be a new Doctor, but he is still the Doctor.
